Paul Nicholson: CV

Paul has designed world-class science and technology projects for major British, European and American clients and universities since 1982. Since 1985 Paul has also been designing and delivering primary, secondary and university facilities in the UK.

In 2002 he joined Bovis Lend Lease Pharmaceutical, leading design projects there including the GSK B9 research facility from 2005 to completion on site in 2009.  He has also worked with the PFI teams for hospitals in Leicester and Salford, providing site strategy and refurbishment consultancy. In 2008 he was joint author of ‘Transforming education’, a vision for education design.

From 2005 to 2012 Paul was Head of Architecture within the multidisciplinary design team for Lend Lease design and was responsible for considerable innovation in the design and delivery of science & technology projects. In 2008 Paul gave the keynote paper on a vision and methodology for labs of the future at BP’s Fuels & Lubricants conference in Chicago.

Paul’s approach to architecture centres on the belief that good architecture can lift the spirit, stimulate learning and interaction, motivate business, support knowledge discovery and transfer by providing environments conducive to a client’s business.  The sustainable agenda is a core focus for Paul and he recognises that it is at the initial stages of a project where the sustainability of a building has its highest currency. Paul has pursued a process of thorough analysis with the client, followed by innovation in the development of the design solution.
